TSC Executive Education
In concert with established authorities and directives, the center team is underway in planning and conducting a well-defined academic program that is innovative, with the aim of advancing Arctic security in support of U.S. defense strategy, and more specifically comply with guidance and priorities from Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, and the commander of USNORTHCOM. To accomplish the vision of creating a stellar executive education program, the TSC is underway in collaborating with government and civilian institutions to proactively address the Arctic operating environment, emerging technologies, and shifting international relations in the Arctic, and how they will impact U.S. national security interests. The education of leaders to help them understand the Arctic security environment directly supports this line of effort.

In accordance with OSD and USNORTHCOM guidance, executive education is the TSC’s top priority.
Accordingly, TSC SASS is establishing a tiered approach to Arctic security studies for development of international senior Arctic security leaders as well as support to professionalizing Arctic service within the U.S.
The term “executive education,” is consistent with DoD Regional Center practices aligned with concepts well-established of U.S. professional military education (PME), separate and distinct from traditional academic education.
TSC planned executive education is oriented to advance understanding and subject matter professional development for Arctic security practitioners (both for military and civilian personnel) on a wide array of Arctic security and defense related topics. In compliance with OSD guidance, regarding military personnel, and in particular for professionalizing Arctic service, TSC programs will strive to not only achieve U.S. and international senior leader education, but also seek to gain mid-to senior level enlisted personnel as well as field grade level commissioned officer participants in center-developed programs and activities. In compliance with USNORTHCOM guidance, TSC SASS is creating programs for senior security leader awareness of the increasingly complex Arctic security environment.
Executive education consists of a tiered approach that builds on a regularly scheduled fundamental course on the Arctic to support professionalizing personnel in Arctic service. Periodically scheduled courses on a wide range of topics oriented to understanding the many facets of Arctic security will expand beyond fundamental baselines of Arctic security. TSC educational programs encompasses DoD participation, to include unified commands, military services, as well as U.S. interagency and international partners.
Courseware development and instruction is conducted via a small full-time education cadre, augmented by a larger TSC academic network alliance of part-time, adjunct, and affiliated faculty (and includes U.S., Allied and partner educational professionals).
In support of OSD, unified command, and military service needs, the center strives to be innovative and adaptive in creating short/focused educational seminars enabling the TSC to address current/emerging “hot” topics as they arise in the dynamic geopolitics of the region.
